La Masia of FC Barcelona: tradition and the future of football

The Masia de Can Planes, popularly known as La Masia of Barça, is one of the most emblematic historic buildings linked to Futbol Club Barcelona. Located next to Camp Nou until 2011, this traditional Catalan farmhouse, built at the end of the 18th century, evolved from an agricultural residence into the heart of the club’s sporting and human development.

In 1979, under the presidency of Josep Lluís Núñez, La Masia was adapted to host young players from the club’s academy. From then on, the building became not only a residence for future footballers but also a place of learning, coexistence, and values. Although in 2011 the club inaugurated new, modern facilities for the academy at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, the historic La Masia building remains a symbol of Barça’s values and identity. It is, in essence, the cradle of the club’s footballing philosophy and an essential part of its cultural and sporting legacy.
